Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, CON, mni, is a Nigerian academic, soil and water engineer, and political leader serving as the Executive Governor of Borno State since May 2019. Born on August 25, 1969, in Mafa, Borno State, he rose from humble beginnings as a commercial driver and irrigation engineer to earning a Ph.D. from the University of Maiduguri and eventually attaining the rank of Professor of Agricultural Engineering in 2016. Prior to his governorship, Zulum served as the Rector of Ramat Polytechnic and as Borno�s pioneer Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement, where he led extensive post-conflict rebuilding efforts. As governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC), he has earned widespread recognition for his hands-on, security-focused governance, institutional reforms, and extensive infrastructure development across the state.
